Morgan Freeman, the legendary actor known for films like The Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy, has sparked fresh concern about his health after a frail appearance at the Academy Awards. The 87-year-old Oscar winner paid tribute to his late friend Gene Hackman, but onlookers couldn’t help but notice his shaky movements and emotional tone.
Sources close to the actor say he looked like he was struggling physically and emotionally, leading some to worry that he may be more fragile than he admits.
Struggling with Fibromyalgia and Old Injuries
Freeman has long been open about living with fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that causes:
- Constant pain
- Fatigue
- Trouble sleeping
- Mood and memory issues
The condition became worse after a near-fatal car crash in 2008, which left his left hand paralyzed. Since then, Freeman has often worn a compression glove to help with blood flow and nerve pain.
“I suffered nerve damage, and it hasn’t gotten better,” Freeman once admitted.
He also had a pacemaker installed after the crash. The accident reportedly happened when he passed out behind the wheel of a friend’s car in Mississippi, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times.
“He Never Fully Recovered,” Says Insider
An insider told RadarOnline.com that Freeman “never completely recovered” from the crash — and likely never will. Over the years, his mobility has declined, and he continues to live in constant pain.
“He’s tired, he can’t stand for long, and he’s still wearing the glove for his paralyzed hand,” the source revealed.
Freeman’s health struggles were highlighted again in 2023, when he missed a London photocall for his series Special Ops: Lioness after coming down with a contagious infection.
Despite Health Issues, Freeman Keeps Working
Even with ongoing medical problems, Freeman refuses to slow down. He’s still active in the film industry, with three upcoming projects, including the heist thriller Now You See Me 3.
His commitment to work is impressive, but some close to him are concerned that he’s pushing himself too hard.
“Morgan has good days and bad days,” said the insider. “Everyone’s happy to see him active, but the nonstop work is a worry.”
