Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Shreveport: A Tragic Reminder of Safety

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Shreveport A Tragic Reminder of Safety

On Tuesday, Shreveport Police responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Russell Road.

The Incident

When officers arrived, they found Philip Ernest Miller unconscious in the road, suffering from a head injury. A Shreveport City Marshal and a nearby daycare worker were performing CPR to help Miller. The Shreveport Fire Department soon arrived, and Miller was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Investigation and Findings

Following an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit, it was determined that Miller was traveling at a high rate of speed on MLK Drive and lost control of the motorcycle while trying to navigate a curve.

Although Miller was wearing a full-face helmet, he failed to secure the chin strap, which caused the helmet to come off upon impact with the concrete, resulting in severe head and body injuries.

Tragic Outcome

Sadly, Philip Ernest Miller later passed away from his injuries that evening.

A Reminder of Safety

The Shreveport Police Department is emphasizing the importance of proper safety practices when riding a motorcycle.

This incident marks the 23rd fatal crash in Caddo Parish this year, making it the highest number in Louisiana for 2023. The SPD extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Miller’s family and urges all motorists to ensure they are properly securing their safety gear while on the road.

SPD’s message: “This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing and properly securing safety gear.”
