Firefighters Fight a Huge South Shreveport Woods Fire

SHREVEPORT, LA – These hot, dry conditions have kept firefighters busy throughout Caddo Parish.

Just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Shreveport firefighters responded to a woods fire near Linwood and Bert Kouns. Calls came in reporting heavy black smoke coming from a wooded area behind Brookshire’s.

Engines 15 and 9 arrived at the scene and located the fire in the woods. It came from a homeless encampment deep in the woods.

The fire department issued a statement:

Due to strong wind-driven conditions, the fire began to rapidly grow and spread causing Engine 15 to request additional SFD personnel, including two brush trucks. Mutual aid was also requested and generously provided by Caddo Parish Fire Districts 3 and 6 and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, who deployed a bulldozer to create fire breaks and contain the flames.

About 20 firefighters helped fight the fire to keep it from spreading. The fire was extinguished within about two hours. This fire caused no injuries and did not damage any buildings.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The low humidity and high winds have created a fire hazard throughout the region. Caddo Parish is still under a burn ban as a result of these conditions.
