WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A potentially dangerous situation was quickly brought under control after a motorcycle backfired at a QuikTrip gas station on Old Iowa Park Road, sparking a fire at one of the fuel pumps.
According to firefighters on the scene, the incident began when a motorist finished refueling his motorcycle. As he attempted to start the bike, it backfired, which caused a sudden ignition of gasoline fumes, setting the pump ablaze.
Quick Action Prevents Greater Damage
Thanks to the quick thinking of store employees, who immediately used the emergency fuel shutoff switch, the flames were prevented from spreading further. The Wichita Falls Fire Department responded swiftly and extinguished the fire before it could escalate.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the motorcycle and the affected gas pump. There was no structural damage to the gas station itself.
