Heavy rain and flooding in North Texas have led to the closure of several roads across Wichita and Baylor counties, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Standing water has made many roadways dangerous or impassable, and authorities are warning drivers not to travel on flooded roads, even if they appear shallow.
Affected Counties Across the Region
Flooding is not limited to just two counties. According to TxDOT, standing water has also been reported in:
- Archer, Clay, Montague, Throckmorton, and Young counties, in addition to Wichita and Baylor.
- Motorists in these areas are advised to use caution and check road conditions before heading out.
Roads Closed in Wichita County
1. State Highway 240
Closed from State Highway 25 to Krohn Road due to flooding at China Creek.
2. Business U.S. Highway 287
Closed from FM Road 2384 to Midway Church Road.
3. FM Road 368
Closed between State Highway 258 and FM Road 1206 at Antelope Creek.
4. State Highway 25
Closed from Brosch Road to Old Lake Road due to rising water.
Road Closure in Baylor County
FM Road 1790 (northbound and southbound) is closed from south of U.S. Highway 183 to half a mile north of FM Road 422. This closure is due to downed electrical lines, adding extra risk on top of the flooding.
Stay Alert and Travel Safe
Authorities are urging all drivers to avoid driving on roads with standing water, even if they are familiar with the area. What may seem like a shallow puddle could be hiding deep water, washed-out pavement, or electrical hazards.
It’s always safer to wait or take alternate routes until conditions improve.
