For the Windthorst Sausage Meal, the community comes together

WINDTHORST (KFDX/KJTL) The Windthorst Knights of Columbus and Volunteer Fire Department will host their Sausage Meal this weekend, and if you want a good meal, Windthorst is the place to be.

The meal will be served on Sunday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Windthorst. Adults are $15, while children aged 12 and under are $5. To go plates are available for $15. Fresh, raw German sausage will also be available for $10 per package.

Mark Veitenheimer, a fourth-degree Knight, stated that all of the sausage they serve is handmade. Over 3,100 pounds are currently curing, ready to be cooked and served on Sunday.

“We put on this great sausage meal, open to the public,” Veitenheimer said. “We serve a full meal, sauerkraut, the sausage, you know, ribs, all the sides, dessert, ice cream; in Windthorst, you gotta have ice cream.”

Weston Schlumpf, a member of the Windthorst VFD, stated that the event was a success thanks to the entire community’s efforts.

“It’s neat watching everybody come together and do it because it’s been going on for years,” Schlumpf told the audience. “And there are so many people who aren’t even involved in either of our organizations asking, ‘How can I help?'” “What can I do?”
