Former DA Comes Under Fresh Accusations on Theft

Former 97th Judicial District Attorney Casey Hall, who previously served Archer, Clay, and Montague Counties, now faces additional felony charges connected to allegations of theft that surfaced in 2024.

Hall was initially arrested on July 9, 2024, on a state jail felony charge of theft over $2,500 but less than $30,000. However, a Montague County grand jury has now returned a new indictment, escalating the case with two additional charges:

  1. Third-degree felony – Theft by a Public Servant
  2. State jail felony – Misapplication of Fiduciary Property

New Charges and Allegations

The latest indictment accuses Hall of depositing funds intended for Montague County into her personal bank account between May 31 and October 4, 2022.

Following these new charges, a motion for a continuance was filed, citing the need for additional investigation into further alleged misappropriated funds.

Legal Proceedings and Upcoming Trial

Hall was initially set to face trial for her original theft charge on March 17, 2025. However, due to the new indictment, legal proceedings may be delayed as prosecutors investigate additional allegations.

Hall’s Removal from Office

Hall was serving her third term as District Attorney but was defeated in the March 2024 Primary Election by Katie Boggeman, who officially took office in January 2025.

However, Hall’s term ended four months early after she was temporarily suspended following a petition for her removal due to the theft allegations. Boggeman was appointed as interim DA before assuming the role permanently.

Hall’s Response to the Allegations

After her initial indictment, Hall strongly denied the charges, calling them “absolutely unfounded” and expressing confidence in her eventual exoneration.

“An indictment is not a conviction. I am confident that the truth will prevail in my favor.” – Casey Hall
