Good News for SSI Recipients: May Will Bring Another $1,450 Check

Good News for SSI Recipients May Will Bring Another $1,450 Check

In the United States, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) helps millions of people every month. This government benefit supports low-income individuals, senior citizens, and people with disabilities who need help covering basic daily expenses like food, rent, and utilities.

Normally, SSI payments are sent out on the 1st of each month, but this May, some beneficiaries will notice two payments in their account.

Why Are There Two SSI Payments in May?

The second SSI payment in May has a simple reason. The Social Security Administration (SSA) does not send payments on weekends or public holidays. If the 1st of the month falls on a weekend, the SSA sends the payment early, on the last working day of the previous month.

In this case, June 1, 2025, is a Saturday, so the payment meant for June will be sent early on Friday, May 31.

So, while it might seem like SSI recipients are getting a double benefit in May, one of the payments actually belongs to June, just sent earlier than usual.

Who Will Receive Two SSI Payments in May?

Anyone who receives SSI benefits regularly and still qualifies under the program will receive two deposits in May:

  • One on May 1 – your regular monthly SSI payment.
  • Another on May 31 – the June payment made early.

There is no change in your total benefits or your eligibility. This is a simple date adjustment to ensure the money reaches you on time.

How Much Will You Receive?

The amount of the second SSI payment in May is the same as your usual monthly benefit. For 2025, the maximum SSI amounts are:

  • $967 per month – for individuals
  • $1,450 per month – for couples who qualify together
  • $484 per month – for those receiving reduced SSI while living with others

These figures already include the 2.6% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) that started in January 2025. The payment on May 31 is not an extra raise or bonus—it’s just your June benefit coming a bit earlier.

Do You Need to Do Anything to Get the Second Payment?

No. There’s nothing you need to do. The payment is automatic and will be sent through your usual method—whether that’s a bank deposit or Direct Express card.

You do not need to apply or contact SSA. As long as you still qualify for SSI, your payment will arrive without any issues.

What About the Next Payment?

Because your June SSI is being paid on May 31, you will not receive another payment in early June. Your next payment after that will be the July check, scheduled as usual for July 1, 2025.

So it’s important to remember: if you receive two payments in May, the second one covers your June expenses, and there will be no separate payment in June.
