Houston, Texas – What should have been a warm Mother’s Day family gathering turned into tragedy when a man allegedly shot and killed his stepbrother during a visit to their mother’s home.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Charles Storey, 50, is accused of fatally shooting his stepbrother, Eduardo Alfaro Jr, 32, on Sunday evening, May 11, 2025.

What Happened?

Police said the incident occurred at a residence in Harris County, where Alfaro had arrived to spend Mother’s Day with his mother. Sadly, he was met with violence instead.

Deputies were called to the home after receiving reports of gunshots around 7:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found Alfaro with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect in Custody

Charles Storey was taken into custody by officers and has been charged with murder. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, and an investigation is ongoing.

No additional details about the cause of the argument or the moments leading up to the shooting have been officially released.

Sheriff Shares Emotional Statement

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez spoke about the incident in a social media post, calling it a heartbreaking case.

“A mom lost two sons on Mother’s Day,” Gonzalez wrote.

He added that Alfaro had planned to take his mother out for dinner that evening. When he arrived, he reportedly found Storey, who may have been under the influence of alcohol.

“What should’ve been a pleasant evening between mother and son instead turned deadly,” Gonzalez said.

The sheriff also mentioned that both men’s mother was present during the shooting, although she is believed to be physically unharmed.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the argument between the two stepbrothers. The motive remains unclear, and more updates are expected as the investigation continues.

The sheriff’s department has not shared any official details regarding possible weapons or whether Storey had a criminal history.
