DuPage County, IL – The U.S. National Weather Service for Chicago, Illinois, has issued a heat advisory warning for DuPage County starting Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22. With temperatures expected to exceed 100°F, residents are being urged to take extra precautions.
Safety Precautions and Recommendations
The National Weather Service encourages everyone in the area to:
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Avoid outdoor activity during the peak heat hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..
Wear light and loose-fitting clothing to help stay cool.
Keep pets indoors and ensure they have plenty of water.
Check on elderly neighbors and loved ones to make sure they are safe during the heat.
Never leave children or pets in the car, as temperatures inside vehicles can rise quickly to dangerous levels.
Local Changes Due to Heat
Several DuPage County cities have made adjustments to their plans due to the extreme heat:
Downers Grove has announced the cancellation of all outdoor activities scheduled for Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, ensuring the safety of all residents and staff.
Orland Park will move the waste pick-up schedule earlier by one hour on Monday, June 23. Waste Management will begin pickups at 5 a.m. on Monday. Residents are encouraged to bring their waste to the curb before 5 a.m. to accommodate this change.
Cooling Centers Open
In response to the heat wave, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office has opened over 60 new cooling centers throughout the county. Local cities in DuPage County are encouraging residents to utilize these centers over the weekend to help stay cool and avoid heat-related illnesses.
