A 61-year-old woman named Irene Williams died after her boyfriend allegedly threw her off a third-floor balcony during an argument. This terrible event happened at an apartment complex and has raised serious concerns about domestic violence and safety.
What Happened?
The incident occurred on Monday evening around 7:21 PM at an apartment complex on West San Ysidro Boulevard in San Diego. Witnesses told police that they saw a man pick up a woman and throw her off the balcony.
Police later confirmed that the woman was Irene Williams and the man was her boyfriend, Albert Turner, who is 57 years old.
According to the police, the couple had been arguing. During the fight, Irene reportedly threw some of Turner’s personal items off the balcony. In response, Turner allegedly grabbed her and threw her from the third floor.
Victim Died from Her Injuries
After falling, Irene suffered serious injuries, including a major head injury and a broken thigh bone. Emergency medical teams arrived quickly and took her to the hospital, but sadly, she did not survive.
The San Diego Police Department confirmed her death and announced that Turner has been charged with first-degree murder.
Eyewitness Accounts
Charles Riddle, a neighbor who witnessed the event, said he is still shaken by what he saw. He told local news that he was walking to his car when he heard the couple fighting.
Just moments later, he saw Turner grab Irene from behind and throw her over the balcony. Riddle described the horrifying scene of her falling and landing head-first.
Another neighbor told the news that Irene was a small, thin, elderly woman, while Turner was much larger and muscular. The neighbor also said that Turner had only recently moved in with Irene, just about a month ago.
Turner Arrested and in Jail
Albert Turner did not run away after the incident. He stayed at the scene and was taken into police custody shortly afterward. He is now in San Diego County Jail and is not allowed to leave on bail. Turner is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday to face charges for the crime.
