According to local news outlet WTVD, police responded to an “unknown type call” on March 31, 2025, at a home in Wilson, North Carolina.

When officers arrived, they discovered two people dead inside the house:

  • Dana Jenkins, 50 — the suspect’s mother
  • Daryn Cox, 15 — the suspect’s younger brother

Police later confirmed that the suspect is Dana’s son and Daryn’s older brother, Da’Ron Donta Jenkins.

Da’Ron Jenkins Had Just Been Released from Prison

As per court documents obtained by WITN, Jenkins had only been out of prison for about a week. His past convictions include:

  • Larceny of firearms
  • Multiple counts of breaking and entering into vehicles

His return to the family home seemed normal at first—but not to everyone.

Juanilla Kornegay, Dana Jenkins’ cousin and next-door neighbor, spoke to the media after the tragedy. She shared her thoughts about Da’Ron’s behavior after his release:

“I said the look on his face, he’s getting ready to do something. You could see it. The look, it told you everything, but I had no idea you were getting ready to do what you did.”

Her words have resonated with many who wonder if something could have been done to prevent the loss.

Da’Ron Jenkins made his first court appearance on April 1, 2025. He is now being held at the Wilson County Jail without bond.
