Historic Floral Heights United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls Going to Auction This May

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a landmark property in Wichita Falls, this could be your chance. One of the city’s most iconic and historic buildings — the Floral Heights United Methodist Church — is headed to auction soon, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of local heritage.

This property, known for its gold dome and deep community roots, will be up for bidding in early May, and locals are eager to see what the future holds for this much-loved building.

A Year Since the Final Service

It’s been nearly a year since Floral Heights United Methodist Church held its final service, after a decision was made to merge with University Methodist and First United Methodist Churches in 2024. According to former church superintendent Todd Harris, discussions about the merger and closure began back in 2023.

The church was one of Wichita Falls’ oldest active congregations, and the building located on 10th Street has been a familiar sight for decades, especially thanks to its recognizable golden dome.

Auction Date and Property Details

The auction for the church is scheduled to go live on May 5, 2025, with bidding starting at $150,000. The property includes:

  • A 2.94-acre lot
  • The main church building with its gold dome and working bells
  • A kitchen and daycare area
  • An existing cell tower lease with AT&T, generating $2,800 per month

The property is not just historically significant — it also offers potential for income and multiple uses.

Preserving Wichita Falls History

Michael Mitchell, chair of the neighborhood revitalization project, hopes that whoever purchases the property will respect the building’s architecture and its value to the community.

“We’d love to see the gold dome preserved,” Mitchell said. “It’s part of the heart of downtown Wichita Falls.”

Whether the future of the building involves a community center, event space, or new business, many are hopeful that its iconic look remains untouched.
