Two Wichita Falls Legacy Lady Leopards made history at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championships.

Nmesomachukwu Nzeh-Biko and Leah Sanchez were the two lady leopards that shone brightest.

Nmesomachukwu Nzeh-Biko became Wichita Falls Legacy High School’s first-ever state champion in any sport.

“Now I’m kind of neutral to it, which is a great accomplishment, but I’m kind of neutral to it,” Wichita Falls Legacy Powerlifter Nmesomachukwu Nzeh-Biko explained.

“So I was waiting for that light, so that light at the front indicates whether I made it and I have to have at least two to go on and it’s three lights so at that moment I was very overcome by emotions,” says Nzeh-Biko.

Leah Sanchez also competed in the State Meet.

Sanchez set the state record for bench press and finished third in the competition.

“This year was still competitive, but I came in wanting to improve, like I wanted to be better than I was last year,” Wichita Falls Legacy Powerlifter Leah Sanchez stated.

“I mean, seeing Mezo lift, especially that final deadlift, was definitely inspiring. “I intend to show that same excitement next year,” Sanchez stated.

Legacy Powerlifting Coach Billy Davison has coached 25 state powerlifters during his 14-year tenure with the Wichita Falls Independent School District.

“It’s exciting the more I think about it,” Wichita Falls Legacy Powerlifting Coach Billy Davison stated.

Nezh-Biko also tied the state record for deadlifting with 425 pounds.
