“I Didn’t Even Get to Say Goodbye to My Baby”: Texas Mother Arrested and Handcuffed After Stranger Killed Her 2-Year-Old Daughter in a Hit-and-Run

I Didn't Even Get to Say Goodbye to My Baby Texas Mother Arrested and Handcuffed After Stranger Killed Her 2-Year-Old Daughter in a Hit-and-Run

Allana Gray’s life changed forever on May 21 when her 2-year-old daughter, Egypt, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident outside their Houston apartment. Despite rushed efforts and CPR, Egypt tragically died at the hospital.

What Happened?

Gray was running errands when she got the heartbreaking call about her daughter. She rushed home to find a crowd gathered at the apartment complex.

During the chaos, a family member confronted the crowd with a gun, prompting someone to call the police. Officers arrived around 6 p.m. and learned about the hit-and-run accident involving Egypt.

Eyewitness Account

The only known witness is Gray’s 4-year-old son. The father had been watching Egypt and their son play outside but went inside to get his cellphone. When he returned, his son ran up to him and asked where his sister was. From the top of the stairs, the father saw Egypt injured in the parking lot.

Gray said, “When I seen my baby, I almost passed out.”

She immediately drove to the hospital with Egypt’s father performing CPR in the back seat. Sadly, it was not enough to save Egypt.

Aftermath and Police Investigation

The tragedy did not end there. Gray was handcuffed and detained because police found blood on her vehicle. She was questioned until early the next morning, unable even to say goodbye to her daughter.

Gray remembers Egypt as smart, funny, loving, and protective. She says she never left her children unsupervised and is frustrated police have no leads yet. The police have not interviewed her son, the only witness.

Family’s Plea and Community Concern

Gray begged, “If you hit her, if you seen anything, or seen who hit her, please, just say something.”

A neighbor, Justin Jones, expressed concern over speeding in the apartment complex, saying, “It breaks my heart because I have an almost two-year-old.”

Current Status

Houston police have not released updates on the investigation since last week. The family has set up an online fundraiser to help with Egypt’s funeral expenses.
