For years, Rumors Bar was one of the most talked-about places for nightlife in Amarillo. Known for its regular crowd and lively evenings, it had become a local favourite. But things took a tragic turn.
In 2021, the bar closed after the owner, Cindy Jayroe, was killed in a shooting. Then in 2022, the name “Rumors” made headlines again after a drunk driving accident involving individuals connected to the bar led to the death of five people.
After these events, Rumors disappeared from the nightlife scene. But now, it’s making a fresh start.
Rumors Is Reopening Soon – And They’re Hiring
In May 2025, Rumors surprised everyone by returning to social media, announcing plans to reopen this summer in Amarillo. The posts mention exciting upgrades like:

- A new atmosphere
- Drink specials and themed nights
- Pool and dart leagues
- Regular special events
They’ve clearly taken steps to rebrand and rebuild their image.
To prepare for the reopening, Rumors is currently hiring staff. They are looking for:

Two hiring events will be held on June 12th and June 14th, giving people the chance to be part of this new chapter in the bar’s history.
