I'll Kill That Dumb F—er Person Who Threatened to Kill Trump and Vance Said They Would Leave in a Body Bag if the President or Vice President Came Back to Michigan, Feds Say

A Michigan man has been arrested and charged after allegedly making online threats to assassinate President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The threats were posted on a social media platform called Bluesky, according to federal court records.

Who Was Arrested?

The suspect is James Donald Vance Jr., who has no relation to Vice President James David “JD” Vance. He was taken into custody this week and charged with:

  • One count of threatening to kill or harm the President and Vice President of the U.S.
  • Two counts of sending threatening messages across state lines

What Did He Post?

Federal prosecutors say Vance posted threats on April 1, 2025, under the username “Diaperjdv”. One of the messages read:

“If tRump, Vance, or Musk ever come to my city again, they will leave it in a body bag. I will either be shot by a secret service sniper or spend the rest of my life in prison. I’ve only got about 10 years of life left anyway so I don’t f—ing care either way.”

Another earlier post from March 7 targeted Donald Trump Jr. In response to a user speculating about Trump Jr. running for president in 2028, Vance allegedly replied:

“I will murder that stupid f—er before he gets secret service protection.”

What Happens Next?

James Vance appeared in court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maarten Vermaat and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He has been released on a personal bond, meaning he did not need to pay money to get out of jail, but he must follow strict conditions.

Release Conditions

These include:

  • No use of alcohol or narcotic drugs unless prescribed
  • Drug testing
  • No firearms possession
  • Must stay within Western District of Michigan unless approved by court
  • Must participate in computer monitoring
  • Banned from using any social media

The case is now in the hands of U.S. District Judge Paul L. Maloney, appointed by President George W. Bush.

Possible Penalties

If found guilty, Vance could face:

  • Up to 5 years in federal prison
  • A fine of up to $250,000

These are serious federal offenses, as making threats against top leaders is considered a major national security concern.
