Increase in Calls for Roof and Auto Damage Repair in Wichita County

The recent hailstorm that hit Texoma over the weekend has caused severe damage to homes, vehicles, and properties across the region. Now, insurance agents and roofing companies are working nonstop to respond to the hundreds of damage claims coming in.

What Type of Damage Are People Reporting?

According to Rebecca Lammers, an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance, the most common calls are for roof and vehicle damage, but other issues like shattered windows, damaged siding, and even fallen fences are being reported.

“This was a massive storm,” Lammers said. “We’ve taken in around 300 to 400 calls just at our local agency alone. It’s already been declared a catastrophe by Allstate, which is good news because that means your insurance premiums won’t go up when filing claims.”

What Should You Do Before Filing an Insurance Claim?

Lammers advises homeowners to call their insurance agent first before filing any claims. This helps you understand your coverage and deductibles. After that, it’s important to have a reputable local contractor inspect your property to confirm whether the damage is serious enough to file a claim.

Avoid Door-to-Door Contractors

AJ Garcia, owner of Assured Roofing & Construction, warns homeowners to be careful about out-of-town contractors who show up after storms offering quick repairs.

“You should always stay local,” Garcia said. “Check their Google reviews, Better Business Bureau (BBB) listing, and make sure they have a proper website. These are signs you’re working with a trustworthy company.”

Garcia and his team have already inspected over 60 roofs in multiple cities since the storm.

Signs Your Roof Needs Urgent Repairs

If you’re unsure whether your roof needs immediate attention, Garcia suggests checking for a few key signs:

  • Holes in skylights
  • Damage to the hip and ridge areas
  • Leaks or exposed areas that could let water in

“If these areas are damaged, you’ll need to tarp them quickly to stay watertight,” Garcia explained.
