WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The iCan Bike” program that started in Canada is making its way all the way to the Bill Bartley YMCA.

Custom bikes are used during the training to make sure participants can stay upright with the help and guidance from a “buddy,” who is a volunteer for the program.

According to Program Coordinator Janell Stewart, out of the five-day period of the program, the bikes will progressively change into more of a normal bicycle which will benefit them in the future, Stewart said.

“It brings independence to people that are not able to drive,” Stewart said. “And, as they rush through life, it will just bring them the independence to be able to ride their bikes to doctor’s appointments and the grocery store. Any kind of store.”

The iCan Bike program runs through June 7, so you still have time to sign up either as a participant or as a volunteer.

There are multiple time slots available throughout the day.
