Iowa Park Man Gathers Support to Pay for Cancer Treatment

The community of Iowa Park, Texas, is coming together to support one of their own — Gary Brackett, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January. His family and friends are organizing a fundraising event to help cover the growing cost of his medical treatments.

Brackett, the stepfather of Kayla Gray, is no longer able to work due to the seriousness of his illness. As his health continues to decline, his loved ones are asking the community to step in and help during this difficult time.

A Serious Diagnosis That Came Too Late

Like many others with pancreatic cancer, Gary’s condition was discovered at a late stage. Early symptoms are often confused with more common health issues like stomach ulcers, heartburn, or IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

“Just the gravity of how far along it is,” Kayla Gray explained. “He’s not able to work anymore, but he’s doing treatments once a week. It’s very serious because it’s everywhere.”

Fundraising Benefit Details

To help with Gary’s medical bills, a benefit fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 5, at the Eagles Lodge near Seymour Highway and Barnett Road in Wichita Falls.

Here’s what to expect at the event:

  • Start Time: 12:00 PM (Noon)
  • Live music for entertainment
  • Single-elimination pool tournament for participants
  • Pulled pork sandwich meals for supporters

All proceeds from the event will go directly toward Gary Brackett’s ongoing cancer treatments and medical expenses.

How You Can Help

Even if you can’t attend the event, there are still ways to help:

  • Share the fundraiser details with friends and family
  • Make a donation through local fundraising links or in person
  • Offer goods or services for raffles or prizes
  • Volunteer to help during the event

Every little bit can help ease the financial burden on the family and show support to someone who has given back to his community.
