‘It Pisses Me Off. Tremendously.’: Atlanta Family is Angry Because Squatters Moved Into Their Father’s House Two Days After He Died and Started Posting Ads for House Parties on Social Media

‘It Pisses Me Off. Tremendously.’ Atlanta Family is Angry Because Squatters Moved Into Their Father's House Two Days After He Died and Started Posting Ads for House Parties on Social Media

Just days after the death of their father, an Atlanta-area family found multiple squatters had moved into his DeKalb County home — and started posting videos on social media, inviting people to parties.

Squatters Promote Parties Online

The Oliver family says their father passed away last week, and only two days later, strangers occupied the house. The squatters began sharing videos inside the home, advertising pool parties and inviting others.

Lisa Heath, one of the siblings who co-owns the home, described the situation as a “nightmare.” She said the videos had gone viral enough that they even received calls from people in Florida who had seen their dad’s property online.

Marcus Oliver expressed frustration over the damage being done. “It’s infuriating to see people destroying it, partying in it, and inviting strangers into that home,” he said.

Confrontation and Threats

When the family contacted police, the squatters showed a lease and claimed they were renting the property. However, Kevin Oliver, another sibling, later visited the house and was met by squatters, including one armed with a rifle.

“They started making threats against my life,” Kevin said. “One pulled a rifle and made it clear I might not walk out.”

Legal Actions Under Georgia Squatter Reform Act

The Oliver family has filed a squatters’ affidavit under Georgia’s Squatter Reform Act. This law requires occupants to prove they have the right to be on the property or face criminal charges.

If squatters present fake leases, they could face additional felony charges. The squatters occupying the Oliver home have until June 3 to provide legal proof or be evicted by law enforcement.

Damage and Family Anguish

The family says squatters dismantled the home’s surveillance system and removed a lockbox and a door knob.

Marlene Oliver-Bruce expressed deep anger over the situation: “It pisses me off. Tremendously.”
