A tragic stabbing occurred in Sunrise, Florida, when 27-year-old hairstylist Hailey Hosford was killed inside the Retreat at Sawgrass Village parking garage. The suspect, Jackson Sagesse, allegedly attacked Hosford with a knife after approaching her late at night.
Violent Encounter Caught on Security Camera
Hosford had just stepped out of a rental car around 1:30 a.m. on May 28 when Sagesse approached her. Attempting to escape, Hosford jumped back into the car, but the 280-pound suspect forcibly opened the door. A violent struggle ensued, captured on security footage, showing Sagesse repeatedly stabbing into the vehicle.
Friend Also Attacked During Confrontation
After stabbing Hosford, Sagesse confronted a male friend of the victim who had returned from his apartment. The two engaged in a “violent confrontation,” during which the man was stabbed in the throat. The injured man managed to flee and call police for help.
Suspect Flees Scene But Is Quickly Arrested
Sagesse attempted to leave the scene in the car but was unable to move it. He then searched the area for evidence before leaving the parking garage. Police later found Hosford unresponsive in the car with multiple stab wounds to her neck and throat. She was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m.
Victim Remembered as a “Force to Be Reckoned With”
Hailey Hosford was a well-known hairstylist, salon owner, yoga teacher, and ambassador for a retreat company in Fort Lauderdale. Friends described her as a fighter who was full of love and life. Her friend Aubrey Rosebrock shared her last message, describing her as someone who brought light to those around her.
Police Investigation Leads to Suspect’s Arrest
Workers at the Retreat identified Sagesse from the surveillance footage, and police arrested him at his home where they found blood on the door and missing knives matching the suspected weapon. Sagesse confessed to the brutal attack, telling police, “I just killed someone and walked away.”
Suspect Claims Self-Defense But Charges Are Filed
Sagesse told authorities he acted in self-defense, claiming he noticed the car with its lights on and armed himself with a kitchen knife for protection. However, he failed to identify a clear threat. He has been charged with premeditated murder and attempted first-degree murder and is being held without bond at Broward County Jail.
