Mineral Wells scored seven runs in their final two at-bats Thursday to break open a close game against visiting Burkburnett, winning 9-0.
Hailey McWhorter, the Lady Rams’ starting pitcher, dominated Burk in the circle, pitching seven innings of shutout ball, allowing only four hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk.
Mineral Wells was helped by five Lady Bulldogs mistakes. The Lady Rams only had one earned run.
The Lady Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-out passed ball scored by Karli Aaron. Mineral Wells scored a run in their half of the fourth on a two-out infield error, allowing Tatum McMinn to score.
Mineral Wells breathed easier after scoring four runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 6-0. Carsyn Presley hit a solo inside-the-park home run. McMinn and Emery Boswell each drew bases-loaded walks. Scottie Denison finished the inning with a steal of home.
Kynlee Harkins advanced to second base on a two-out error in the sixth inning. She advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a McWhorter triple. McMinn followed with an RBI double, and Denison added her own to make the score 9-0 in favor of the local ladies.
Burkburnett’s Delaney Reitz took the starting position in the circle. The pitcher allowed seven hits in six innings, striking out ten and walking five, while giving up one earned run.
The Lady Rams played error-free ball on the field.
Mineral Wells (13-4) will play at Benbrook on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
