Louisiana Man Allegedly Heard Voices and Fatally Stabbed His Mother, a Teacher, While She Was Asleep

A 19-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stabbing his mother to death while she was asleep in their Louisiana home, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Police Respond to 911 Call

On the afternoon of May 23, deputies responded to a call reporting a possible homicide. A 911 caller told dispatchers, “My brother killed my mother,” according to KSLA-TV.

When deputies arrived, they found Connor Lyons sitting on the back steps of the home. He reportedly told authorities that he had been hearing voices and admitted to stabbing his mother three times in the neck while she slept.

Victim Identified as Local High School Teacher

Inside the home, deputies found the victim, 55-year-old Lara Lyons, dead in her bed. She was a well-known and respected teacher at Mansfield High School in DeSoto Parish.

In a statement, DeSoto Parish School District expressed deep sorrow:
