For years, Louisiana seemed to be falling behind when it came to attracting big industries and high-paying jobs. While neighbouring states like Texas and Alabama celebrated the arrival of car plants, mills, and other large facilities, Louisiana was often left out. Many factories were shutting down, and not many new ones were taking their place.
But that trend is finally starting to turn around — and in a big way.
Big Investment News for Louisiana
Just last month, Hyundai made headlines when it announced plans to build a $5 billion steel mill in Louisiana. That project alone is expected to create thousands of jobs.
Now, Louisiana has even more good news: a new $4 billion ammonia plant is coming to the state, bringing with it high-paying jobs and a major boost to the local economy.
$4 Billion Ammonia Plant Coming to Ascension Parish
CF Industries, along with international partners JERA and Mitsui & Company, is planning to build a state-of-the-art low-carbon ammonia facility in Ascension Parish, at the RiverPlex MegaPark.
According to the companies, this plant will be the largest low-carbon ammonia facility in the world. Once complete, it will export around 1.4 million metric tons of ammonia every year to international markets.
The plant is designed with the future in mind, focusing on clean energy and reducing emissions, which is a big step forward in today’s industrial development.
How Many Jobs Will the Project Create?
Whenever such a big project is announced, one of the first questions people ask is: How many jobs will it create, and how well do they pay?
The answer looks promising. Reports say the project will create:
- 103 direct permanent jobs with an average salary of $110,000
- 311 indirect jobs, which will support local businesses and workers
That’s a total of over 400 new jobs that will benefit Louisiana residents, with strong long-term potential.
When Will the Project Begin?
According to Businesswire, construction is expected to begin in 2026, and the plant should be fully operational by 2029. That means several years of job opportunities during construction as well, in addition to the long-term permanent roles once the facility opens.
