Lufkin Juvenile Shot, Suspect Arrested in Connection with Aggravated Assault

Lufkin, TX – Two families in the Pinewood Park Apartments, located near Dunbar Primary School on Martin Luther King Drive, are facing heartbreaking circumstances after a shooting incident on the evening of Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department and information from the Lufkin Daily News, a juvenile from Lufkin was shot in the leg around 7 PM in the 100 block of Percy Simond Street.

The victim was initially taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center and later flown to an out-of-town hospital for further treatment.

Suspect Arrested

The Lufkin Police Department arrested Julious Jamal Griffin, a 26-year-old from Lufkin, charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Griffin has a criminal history: at the age of 18, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison for four charges, including the sexual assault of an underage girl in May 2016, who later tested positive for an STD.

Additional Charges

In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Griffin has also been charged with deadly conduct and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, both third-degree felonies. When questioned by the authorities, Griffin allegedly claimed that the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Arrest and Jail Details

After his arrest, Griffin was taken to the Angelina County Jail, where he remains. At the time of the report, no bond amounts had been set for him. The juvenile’s identity remains protected, and due to their minor status, further details about their condition may not be publicly released.
