Man, 55, Dies After Being Struck by Car While Cycling at Oakhill Road and Sterchi Drive Junction

Chattanooga, TN A 55-year-old man died Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near the intersection of Oakhill Road and Sterchi Drive, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

The crash occurred around 7:17 a.m. on May 9, 2025. Officers responded quickly after receiving 911 calls reporting a serious collision between a car and a bicyclist. When police arrived at the scene, they found the man critically injured.

Responding officers immediately began CPR before Hamilton County EMS arrived to continue emergency care. Despite their efforts, the man was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Details of the Crash

According to a preliminary investigation by the Chattanooga Police Traffic Unit, the collision happened when a Nissan vehicle traveling southbound on Oakhill Road reached the intersection at Sterchi Drive. At the same time, the bicyclist was heading eastbound on Sterchi Drive and entered the vehicle’s path. The Nissan struck the bicyclist, resulting in fatal injuries.

The driver of the Nissan and a passenger were also injured in the crash. Both were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for what authorities described as suspected minor injuries.

Investigation Still Ongoing

Police emphasized that their findings are still in the early stages and that more details may emerge as the investigation continues. Officers are working to gather additional evidence, including any available surveillance footage or witness statements.
