Man indicted for alleged physical abuse of 9-year-old

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A Wichita County grand jury has indicted a man for child abuse despite his claim that the numerous bruises on a girl’s thighs, shins, calves and arm came from a fall off a bunk bed ladder.

Jose Madrigal, 31, has been indicted on one count of injury to a child, a 9-year-old girl last year.

Madrigal bonded out of jail on that charge after his arrest in January. He was rearrested last month on three new charges: DWI, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

He also bonded out of jail on those charges the same day.

Authorities said the child reported the alleged abuse to the principal of her school on May 1, 2023, four days after sustaining the injuries.

The principal and a CPS investigator reported numerous blue, purple and black bruises on the inside and outside of her thighs, shins, calves, and arm and a small bruise still visible inside her lip that she said was the result of Madrigal slapping her after beating her with a belt.
