A tragic accident took place on Wednesday evening near Wichita Falls, Texas, where a 64-year-old man from Frederick, Oklahoma, lost his life in a motorcycle crash, according to a media release from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
What Happened?
The man, identified as Kenny Gene Burleson, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle heading north on Interstate Highway 44. Around 6:30 p.m., near the Bacon Switch Road exit, Burleson lost control of the motorcycle.
According to the DPS report, he overcorrected, causing the motorcycle to leave the road and go into the center median. After traveling some distance in the median, Burleson laid the motorcycle over—a term used when a rider intentionally or unintentionally brings the bike to the ground to avoid further danger.
Injuries and Medical Response
Burleson was quickly transported to United Regional Healthcare in Wichita Falls. Sadly, he later died from his injuries sustained during the crash.
Safety Concerns
Authorities confirmed that Burleson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. While Texas law does allow adults to ride without helmets under certain conditions, safety experts continue to stress that helmets can significantly reduce the risk of serious injuries or death in motorcycle accidents.
