According to Texas authorities, 31-year-old D. Kandel was sitting next to the victim on a bus when he suddenly stabbed Gopta in the neck without any clear provocation.
Emergency responders found the victim with severe neck injuries and tried to save his life, but Gopta was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m..
How Was the Suspect Caught?
After the stabbing, Kandel calmly left the bus with other passengers and fled on foot. Witnesses gave descriptions to the police, who arrested Kandel nearby at 7:12 p.m..
