A 22-year-old woman from Georgia, Alaynah Rappuhn, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after her newborn baby boy was discovered alive inside a trash bag on the back porch of her home.
The incident, which has shocked the local community, took place in Macon, Georgia, and is currently under investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
What Happened?
According to the police report, the incident unfolded on March 31, when Rappuhn’s boyfriend noticed she was bleeding heavily and took her to Piedmont Macon Hospital. Before leaving for the hospital, Rappuhn allegedly left a black trash bag on the back porch of their home.
Later, the boyfriend returned to the house to collect some belongings, and that’s when he noticed the trash bag was moving. Upon opening it, he was shocked to find a newborn baby boy wrapped in towels.
He immediately rushed the baby to the hospital, where medical staff managed to save the child, though police have stated the baby remains in critical condition.
Rappuhn Did Not Disclose Pregnancy or Birth
Investigators revealed that Rappuhn never informed her boyfriend or hospital staff that she had given birth. She reportedly delivered the baby at around 4:30 a.m. on March 31, then wrapped the baby in towels and placed him inside a trash bag before leaving for the hospital later that afternoon.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed she did not mention the birth when she arrived at the emergency room, even while receiving treatment for severe postpartum bleeding.
Arrest and Charges
Police were called to the hospital and took Rappuhn into custody shortly after she was discharged on April 1. She now faces multiple charges, including:
- Attempted murder
- Reckless abandonment of a child
- First-degree cruelty to children
After her initial court appearance, the judge ordered that she be held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
Current Condition of the Baby
As per the sheriff’s office, the baby is currently being treated at the hospital and is alive but remains in critical condition. No further details about the child’s health status have been released yet.
Authorities are continuing the investigation, and child welfare services are expected to be involved in the case moving forward.
