Houston, TX – Anthony Sanders, a 30-year-old Marine veteran, was shot 10 times and killed after confronting two men who blocked his car in a Houston parking garage on June 3, 2025. The tragic incident occurred after Sanders picked up his fiancée and their 10-month-old son from the Houston Galleria.
According to investigators, Sanders and his family were trying to leave the Orange parking garage when they were blocked by two men, 22-year-old Justin Guzman and 23-year-old Marko Cinan. Sanders stepped out of the car to confront them, and within seconds, he was shot multiple times.
The Shooting and Aftermath
A month after the incident, Guzman and Cinan were arrested and charged with murder. One suspect was caught, while the other turned himself in last week.
Sanders’ mother, Ronyel Sanders, expressed the family’s desire for justice. “Anthony passed away protecting his son and his fiancée,” she said. “That’s what he does.”
Disturbing TikTok Video
In the days following Sanders’ death, his mother discovered a disturbing video on TikTok. The video, posted by Guzman, showed him dancing to hip-hop music while news clips of the shooting played in the background.
Ronyel Sanders was horrified and immediately shared the video with the authorities, saying, “They’re mocking my son’s death.” The Sanders family plans to continue speaking out not only to seek justice for their son but also to raise awareness about what happened.
“We are here for justice, just for Anthony,” said Frank Sanders, Anthony’s father. “And also to stand for what he stood for as a person, and also to bring awareness to what’s going on in today’s society here in Houston alone.”
The Confrontation
The shooting reportedly followed an earlier incident inside the Galleria, where Sanders’ fiancée was confronted by a group of men in an elevator. Fearing for her safety, she called Sanders, who was already on his way to pick her up. After they met, she pointed out the men in the parking garage, and a confrontation ensued.
According to police, as Sanders tried to leave, Cinan brake-checked his car, forcing Sanders to slam on his brakes. Angered, Sanders parked his car and got out to confront the men. At that point, Guzman and Cinan allegedly opened fire on Sanders, killing him instantly. Police said Sanders was unarmed.
Investigation and Legal Defense
Police later found a gun in Guzman’s car with 10 unspent rounds. During Guzman’s preliminary hearing, his attorney, Romy Kaplan, claimed that Sanders was the aggressor and had walked toward Guzman with a knife. Kaplan argued that Guzman acted in self-defense.
“This is a clear-cut case of self-defense,” Kaplan said. “What happened shouldn’t have happened. There’s no doubt that somebody lost their life, but Justin Guzman did not provoke this encounter.”
However, prosecutors and investigators disagree with this claim, stating that Sanders did not have a weapon before he was shot.
Arrests and Court Dates
Guzman turned himself in on June 30, arriving at the Harris County Joint Processing Center in an Uber with his lawyer. His bond was set at $750,000. He is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.
Cinan was arrested last week and remains in jail with a $1 million bond.
