In the United States, many people depend on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to manage their basic living expenses. So, when no SSI payment showed up in June 2025, some beneficiaries were understandably confused and worried. But according to the Social Security Administration (SSA), this is not a cut in benefits—just a change in the payment schedule due to how the calendar falls.
Why No SSI Payment Was Made in June 2025
The SSA has a rule: if the 1st of the month falls on a Sunday or a holiday, they send out the SSI payment on the previous business Friday.
In June 2025, June 1st falls on a Sunday. So instead of paying on June 1, the SSA sent the June SSI payment on Friday, May 30.
This doesn’t mean you’re missing a payment—it just came earlier than usual.
What the SSA Said About the Early Payment
An official from the SSA explained that their system automatically adjusts payments when the 1st of the month is not a business day. In May 2025, this led to two payments being made—one for May and another early one for June.
The SSA clearly stated: “This is not an extra payment.” It’s simply the regular June deposit paid in advance due to how the dates line up.
Why Some People Got Confused
Many people took to forums like Reddit, worried that they had been denied their benefit or that something had gone wrong. Some even thought the second deposit in May was a bonus or extra payment.
Because of this misunderstanding, some people spent more money than they should have, believing they received more than one month’s benefit. But the SSA is urging everyone to remember that it’s just a date adjustment—not a bonus or increase.
More Months with Advance SSI Payments in 2025
This isn’t the only time this will happen. Similar early payments will happen in other months in 2025:
- November’s payment will be sent on October 31, 2025 (Friday)
- December’s payment will arrive on November 29, 2025 (Friday)
These are due to holidays and weekends falling on the 1st of those months. August’s payment will not be shifted because August 1st is a Friday.

How Much Is the Maximum SSI Payment in 2025?
The maximum SSI amounts for 2025 are:
- $967 per month for individuals
- $1,450 per month for couples
These amounts may change depending on inflation, or if your income or resources change.
Remember, getting two payments in the same month does not mean you’re getting extra money. It’s simply an early payment for the next month.
How to Avoid Confusion in the Future
To keep track of your payments and avoid spending mistakes, you can:
- Use bank alerts to track incoming payments
- Mark payment dates on a physical calendar
- Sign up for the My Social Security account to check payment dates and amounts
- Contact your local SSA office if you notice any issues or delays
Who Can Receive SSI Benefits?
The SSI program is meant for people with low income and limited resources, and they must meet one of these conditions:
- Aged 65 or older, even if not disabled
- Have a disability that prevents working for at least 12 months
- Blind or partially blind with corrected vision worse than 20/200
In addition, applicants must:
