Some Americans who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may be surprised to see two payments in their bank account during May 2025. While it may look like a bonus, it’s not extra money. It’s simply a shift in the payment schedule due to how the dates fall on the calendar. Let’s break down what’s really happening and why no payment will arrive in June.
Why Two SSI Payments in May 2025?
SSI benefits are usually paid on the 1st of every month. But when the 1st falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) moves the payment date to the previous working day.
In June 2025, the 1st is a Saturday, so the SSA is sending the June payment on May 30 instead. That’s why SSI recipients will see two deposits in May—one on May 1 (for May) and another on May 30 (for June).
What Happens in June?
Although there will be no SSI payment in June 2025, you’re not missing out. There are always 12 SSI payments per year, and the early June deposit is just rescheduled for May due to the weekend. This kind of calendar adjustment happens a few times every year and is completely normal.
Who Will Get the Two Payments?
Anyone who qualifies for SSI and is active in both May and June 2025 will receive both payments. To qualify for SSI, you must meet some basic conditions, such as:
- Have limited income and resources
- Be 65 or older, blind, or have a disability
- Be a U.S. citizen or have a qualified immigration status
- Pass SSA’s regular eligibility reviews

Upcoming 2025 SSI Date Adjustments
The same early payment rule will happen three more times in 2025. Here’s when to expect it:
- August: Payments on August 1 and August 29 (no payment in September)
- October: Payments on October 1 and October 31 (no payment in November)
- December: Payments on December 1 and December 31 (no payment in January 2026)
These shifts are always due to the 1st of the following month falling on a weekend.
How Much Can You Receive Through SSI?
In 2025, the maximum SSI benefit for a single person is $967 per month. If you live with and financially support a spouse, the benefit increases to $1,450 per month.
There’s also an older benefit, still received by some, for an essential support person—someone who helps the beneficiary with basic daily tasks like bathing or brushing teeth. This support benefit offers a maximum of $484 per month, though it’s no longer given to new applicants.
