A shocking incident took place at a McDonald’s outlet in St. Petersburg, Florida, where a 31-year-old employee allegedly attacked and choked a 17-year-old girl who went behind the counter to get some ranch dressing.

The employee, Akeena Sampson, has been charged with child abuse, though the injuries were said to be not severe.

What Happened at McDonald’s?

The event occurred on April 4, as reported by the Miami Herald. According to police, the teen girl asked for ranch dressing but was not helped by any of the workers. So, she decided to go behind the counter herself to get it.

As she began walking away, Sampson allegedly grabbed her by the arm and then by the neck, taking her to the ground.

An arrest affidavit revealed that:

  • Sampson grabbed the teen’s neck and choked her to the ground.
  • The teen suffered visible injuries on her neck and elbow.
  • Surveillance video footage showed the entire incident.

Legal Action Taken

Sampson was arrested and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm. She was booked into Pinellas County Jail with a bond of $2,500, which she later paid to be released.

McDonald’s Responds

A spokesperson for McDonald’s USA said the company is aware of the incident and is cooperating with police.

“We do not tolerate violence of any kind in our restaurants,” McDonald’s said in a statement.
“This individual was immediately placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.”

The company has promised to take appropriate action once the investigation is complete.
