The community of Wichita Falls is mourning the heartbreaking loss of John Kramer Barnard, a bright and beloved student who tragically passed away in an ATV accident on Friday, April 18, 2025.
A memorial service to honor his life has been scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Legacy High School gymnasium.
Remembering Kramer Barnard
Kramer was a 6th-grade student at Barwise Middle School and had previously attended Ben Franklin Elementary. He made a lasting impression on classmates, teachers, and staff throughout his years in the Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD).
Dr. Peter Braveboy, principal of Barwise Middle School, shared touching words about Kramer, saying,
“Kramer was a very bright student, well-mannered, and had a good sense of humor. He was loved by his friends and our staff who knew him.”
The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Kramer was the victim in Friday’s fatal ATV crash.
Kramer’s loss is not only deeply felt at school but throughout the wider community. He was the son of John Barnard, a member of the WFISD Board of Trustees, and the grandson of Charles Barnard, a retired 89th District Court Judge.
Support for Students and Staff
In response to this tragedy, WFISD announced that counseling resources will be available this week for students and staff at both Barwise Middle School and Ben Franklin Elementary.
Grief counselors will be on hand to offer support, helping young students, teachers, and families navigate the difficult emotions brought on by this sudden loss.
The community has been encouraged to come together, lean on each other, and honor Kramer’s memory during this difficult time.
