MINNEAPOLIS – A severe thunderstorm warning that was in place for the Twin Cities area on Thursday evening has now been canceled. While the threat from dangerous winds has passed, heavy rain and gusty winds are still expected across the region tonight.
Storm Timeline and Impact
Between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m., powerful storms moved from Kandiyohi County toward the western metro area. At their strongest, these storms produced damaging wind gusts of 80 to 90 mph, capable of causing tree damage and power outages.
Now that the storm system has weakened, the main weather concern is moderate to heavy rain, along with winds between 20 to 40 mph as the system continues to move across the Twin Cities metro.
