A 36-year-old Missouri woman, identified as Lidia, was arrested last week after allegedly attempting to smother her children, ranging in age from a 3-month-old baby to children under 12, with pillows in a hotel room.
The disturbing incident took place in Missouri, where authorities found Lidia outside the hotel room showing signs of intoxication.
The Incident and Arrest
According to the responding officers, Lidia appeared heavily intoxicated when they arrived at the scene. She was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including one count of child abuse or neglect causing serious emotional or physical injury, four counts of first-degree domestic assault, and three counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.
Court documents reveal that the horrifying chain of events began when one of Lidia’s children, who was under 12 years old, called 911 at approximately 10:58 p.m., claiming their mother had attempted to strangle them and smother them with a pillow.
The child also reported being locked in the hotel bathroom during the altercation. Another child under the age of 8 stated that Lidia had tried to smother them as well. The children claimed that Lidia threatened, “if one dies, they all die.”
Lidia’s Statement and Evidence
During questioning, Lidia allegedly told officers that she had blacked out and could not recall the events. She attributed her actions to postpartum depression and admitted to a disturbance but did not deny the suffocation attempts. She conceded that if the children said it happened, it probably did.
A search of the hotel room revealed several empty alcohol bottles and four pillows, two of which had their pillowcases removed. These details matched descriptions provided by the children during their statements.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Lidia is currently being held without bond at the county jail and has been ordered to have no contact with her children. The charges against her reflect the seriousness of the alleged offenses, as she is accused of putting her children’s lives at substantial risk.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to ensure justice for the children involved in this tragic incident.
The Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation continues, Missouri authorities are focused on gathering more details to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved.
The case has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of substance abuse and mental health issues in the context of family dynamics.
The children are now in protective custody, and the authorities are determined to ensure that they receive the support and care they need during this difficult time.
