Latasha Mott, a mother from New York, is accused of killing her five-year-old daughter, Nefertiti Harris, and hiding her body in woodlands. The tragic incident allegedly took place on January 6, 2024, when Mott reportedly attacked Nefertiti with a belt while the young girl was in the shower at their home in Syracuse.
Alleged Murder and Cover-Up
Mott is said to have killed her daughter and then dumped her body in a field. It was reportedly months before the girl was reported missing, and the investigation only began after family members realized she was gone.
Mott has been charged with murder and concealing a corpse. Her boyfriend, Corrice Parks, is also facing charges for allegedly helping to hide the body, which was discovered on March 26, 2024.
Suspicious Internet Searches
During the investigation, a detective testified that Mott’s phone was analyzed, and worrying search history was discovered. Some of the searches included:
- “Why do killers hide kids’ bodies?”
- “Do bodies smell in the winter?”
The detective called these searches “suspicious” and said they caused concern.
Defense’s Argument on Search Results
Mott’s defense lawyers argue that these search results shouldn’t be allowed as evidence. They claim that at the time of the interviews, investigators might have viewed Mott as a possible murder suspect without a lawyer, instead of a mother worried about her missing daughter.
Detective’s Statement and Next Steps
Despite the suspicious searches, the detective initially believed that Nefertiti would be found alive and safe. Mott’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 5, 2024, where some of Parks’ comments to the police are expected to be scrutinized.
A Similar Case in Wisconsin
In an unrelated case, Chandler Halderson, a man from Wisconsin, also had a suspicious search history after he allegedly killed his parents. Following the killings, Halderson reportedly searched for “Wisconsin dismembered body found”, even before the bodies were discovered.
This disturbing search history became part of the investigation into the deaths of Bart and Krista Halderson, who were attacked by their son after his double life unraveled.
