Morgan Wallen’s Proposal to His Ex-Fiancée Was Absolutely Unromantic

Morgan Wallen's Proposal to His Ex-Fiancée Was Absolutely Unromantic

Fans of Morgan Wallen know his music is filled with heartbreak and raw emotion, but his real-life love story hasn’t exactly been a fairy tale. In a recent interview on Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, Wallen’s ex-fiancée, KT Smith, shared the surprising story of their engagement—a simple parking lot proposal that was far from traditional.

If you’ve ever wondered about Wallen’s love life before fame, here’s everything Smith revealed about their rocky romance.

Morgan Wallen & KT Smith: How They Met

Wallen and Smith’s relationship began in an unexpected way—on Snapchat. The two connected in 2016 and started dating just a month later. But from the very beginning, Smith admits their relationship was far from perfect.

Their first date took place after one of Wallen’s early shows, where he was an opening act for Josh Turner. Instead of a romantic dinner, Wallen invited Smith to hang out at a bar. Things didn’t go smoothly when she refused to go home with him afterward.

“He was not thrilled that I wouldn’t go home with him,” Smith recalled during the podcast.

Despite the rocky start, they kept dating—and just a few months later, in early 2017, they got engaged.

The Unexpected Proposal in a JCPenney Parking Lot

Unlike the grand, romantic proposals some might expect, Wallen’s proposal was as casual as it gets. Smith revealed that he popped the question just minutes before she had to clock in for workin a JCPenney parking lot in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“He was like, ‘Are we gonna do this or what?’ And then we got engaged,” Smith recalled.

There was no traditional “Will you marry me?” moment, but Smith says she was thrilled. After work, the couple celebrated in their own low-key way—with pizza.

Wallen also didn’t go for a flashy, expensive ring. Instead, he picked one from a mall jewelry store. But Smith didn’t mind, saying she was so in love that even a Ring Pop would have made her happy.

“I thought he hung the moon and stars,” she said. “Everything he did, I was amazed by.”

Their Relationship Didn’t Last, But They Remained Connected

Though Smith and Wallen got engaged quickly, their relationship didn’t go the distance. They had an on-again, off-again romance throughout Wallen’s rise to fame.

By 2019, their relationship had officially ended—right around the time Smith found out she was pregnant. The two share a son, Indigo Wilder, and continue to co-parent despite their past ups and downs.
