According to court documents and an affidavit reported by KDVR, Jennifer was killed in her own home on the 500 block of 1st Street in Berthoud. On that tragic day, 20-year-old Ebenezer Worku was driving along the street when he fired two shots from his car. One of those bullets struck and killed Jennifer inside her home.
Worku later confessed to the shooting, telling police, “I did it… put me in jail.” He claimed it was an accident, saying he was trying to clear his gun when it fired. The weapon, a Glock 22 handgun, was reportedly a birthday gift from his “adopted uncle,” who was also in the car with him that night.
Worku’s Mental Health History
The arrest affidavit revealed that Worku suffers from what he called “homicidal schizophrenia.” He reportedly hears voices in his head urging him to harm others. He also told officers that he had been off his prescribed medication for nearly two years.
Despite his condition, Worku had access to a deadly firearm—raising serious questions about gun access and mental health treatment. His confession was detailed and emotional. “I’m getting punished for it,” he reportedly said, expressing regret but also confirming his responsibility for the fatal shot.
