Hooks, Texas – Jatoria Renae Cleamons, a 21-year-old woman from Texas, is facing charges of manslaughter and injury to a child after allegedly killing her eight-month-old son in a horrific act of abuse.
Authorities say Cleamons put her baby in scalding hot water while giving him a bath in January, reportedly out of frustration over a dirty diaper.
Disturbing Details of the Crime
The tragic incident occurred around January 21, when Cleamons allegedly placed her son in water that was too hot, causing severe burns to his skin. Police were called to a residence in Hooks, Texas, on February 4, where they found the baby unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive the child through CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mother’s Confession
Cleamons later admitted to investigators that she had put her son in scalding water during a bath two weeks earlier, explaining that her frustration with his dirty diaper led to the disturbing action. The baby’s autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was due to severe burns from the hot water.
Memorial Post Raises Questions
In an unsettling turn, eleven days after her son’s death, Cleamons posted a memorial to her child on Facebook. The post included photos and videos of the baby, including one of him smiling and splashing in his baby bath.
Cleamons shared a heartfelt tribute, writing, “Rest in love my baby. I love you so much and I miss you so much my heart is so broken. I will always think about you, Rest in heaven my love.”
Arrest Warrant Issued
After months of investigation, the Hooks Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Cleamons on June 13, charging her with manslaughter and injury to a child. However, as of June 16, Cleamons remained at large, and there is still no clear explanation as to why the department waited several months to secure an arrest.
Despite misinformation circulating on social media claiming she was arrested over the weekend, Cleamons has not been taken into custody. The Hooks Police Department has asked the public for assistance in locating her.
Community Shock and Calls for Justice
The case has shocked the community, especially given the nature of the alleged crime and Cleamons’ apparent lack of remorse in her social media posts following her son’s death. Local law enforcement is urging anyone with information about Cleamons’ whereabouts to come forward, as she remains on the run.
As of now, Cleamons is still wanted and on the loose, and authorities continue to search for her.
