Nacogdoches, Texas, has faced a troubling start to 2025, with three murder cases already reported this year. But now, police say they have a suspect behind bars for each case, including the recent shooting death of a 19-year-old local teenager.
The arrest brings hope of resolution for the family of the victim, Jermiah Jarmma Warren, who was found dead in April in a wooded area near an apartment complex in the city.
What Happened to Jermiah Warren?
On April 27, 2025, police were called to the Old Woden Road area, close to the Summit Living Orton Hill Apartment Homes, formerly known as Eastwood Terrace, after residents reported hearing gunshots.
Soon after, Jermiah Warren was found deceased in a nearby wooded area. His death shocked the community and prompted an intense police investigation.
Suspect Arrested in Connection With the Murder
According to KTRE News, police arrested Rakeem Keshawn Rocquemore, 23, of Nacogdoches, on Friday, May 9, 2025, in connection with Warren’s death.
Sergeant Brett Ayers confirmed the arrest. Rocquemore was taken into custody peacefully near the 1100 block of South University Drive.
He now faces a first-degree felony murder charge. Due to concerns that he might try to flee, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office has set his bond at $1 million.
Was It an Accident?
Court documents suggest the shooting was not intentional. According to the indictment, Rocquemore allegedly fired a gun at another person, but the bullet struck Warren, resulting in his death.
The shooting happened during another felony activity, which officials are calling “deadly conduct.” This means that while Warren may not have been the intended target, the actions taken by Rocquemore were still considered criminally reckless and dangerous.
Three Murders, Three Suspects
With Rocquemore’s arrest, police now have suspects in custody for all three murder cases reported in Nacogdoches in 2025. While investigations continue, authorities are working to bring justice to each victim’s family.
This latest development provides a sense of closure for Warren’s loved ones, who have been seeking answers since his tragic death.
