Netanyahu Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize After Efforts Toward Ceasefire

Washington, D.C. – On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a letter nominating U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination came after Trump’s efforts to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Netanyahu visited the White House for a face-to-face meeting with Trump, marking their first meeting since the U.S. military carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The strikes were made in coordination with Israel, which had also bombed key Iranian nuclear sites.

During their dinner, Netanyahu pulled out a letter and handed it to the president.

“I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize committee. It’s nominating you for the peace prize, which is well deserved,” Netanyahu said. He also praised Trump for his work on the Abraham Accords and other peace efforts. “The president has already realized a great opportunity. He’s forging peace in one country and one region after another,” Netanyahu added.

Trump was surprised and appreciative. “This I didn’t know,” Trump said as he took the letter. “Wow. Thank you very much. Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful.”

Trump’s Support for Peace Efforts

Trump’s supporters have recently argued that he deserves another look from the Nobel committee due to his efforts in broker ceasefires around the world. Just last week, Pakistan said it would recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in mediating a conflict between Pakistan and India.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) also sent a letter to the Nobel committee on Tuesday, urging them to consider Trump for his role in negotiating a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Focus on Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu on Monday also focused on the ongoing attempts to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This has been a challenging task since fighting erupted between the two in October 2023.

Trump and the Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize has often been on Trump’s mind as he shapes his foreign policy. During his first term, he also made a case for the prize after his summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to discuss denuclearization. However, those summits did not result in concrete progress.
