A 75-year-old man from North Carolina, accused of killing a father of three during a road rage incident, has been denied bail by a judge. The incident, described by prosecutors as cold-blooded and calculated, happened in front of the victim’s three young daughters.
What Happened on the Day of the Incident?
The tragic event occurred in October 2024. According to police, Terrell Eugene Giddens, 75, and Jeffrey Michael Guida, 40, were involved in a road rage dispute. Both men got out of their cars, and Giddens allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Guida near the driver’s door of his Jeep Wagoneer.
Eyewitnesses told police that Giddens continued firing at Guida even after he had fallen to the ground. Police say Guida’s three daughters — aged 2, 11, and 13 — were in the car and watched their father get shot and killed.
Giddens Accused of Shooting Into Car With Children Inside
After killing Guida, Giddens allegedly fired into the car where the girls were sitting, but fortunately none of the children were injured. He is now facing first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Bail Request Denied by the Judge
Giddens’ attorney asked the court to allow him to be released on bond, suggesting an amount of around $350,000. The lawyer mentioned that Giddens had “significant ties to the community” and planned to stay with his girlfriend in a nearby county if released.
However, Judge Donald Cureton quickly denied the request. “I believe this is one of the clearest examples of the danger of a defendant potentially to others that I have ever seen,” the judge said, according to The Charlotte Observer.
Prosecutors Call It a “Cold-Blooded Execution”
Tim Gould, Chief Assistant District Attorney of Catawba County, opposed bail and strongly described the murder as an execution-style killing. “He was not afraid of Jeff Guida. He decided to kill him because he was mad,” Gould stated.
The Victim: A Father of Three
Jeffrey Guida’s sudden and violent death has left his family devastated. His three daughters had to witness the entire event, and their trauma is expected to have long-lasting effects.
Where Is Giddens Now?
Giddens remains in custody without bond. He has been formally charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, and is expected to face a serious prison sentence if convicted.
