Officer-Involved Shooting in Downtown Shreveport Leaves One Man Dead

SHREVEPORT, LA – A tense situation in downtown Shreveport turned deadly on Sunday afternoon, when a man was shot and killed by police after reportedly refusing to drop a gun.

What Happened in Shreveport?

At around 2 PM, Shreveport police officers were called to the area of Marshall and Crockett Streets after receiving reports of a man trying to break into parked cars. Witnesses said the man was carrying a firearm.

According to reports, an employee from a nearby restaurant attempted to confront the man on Crockett Street, but the man fled.

Man Fatally Shot After Refusing to Drop Weapon

When police arrived, the man was still holding the gun and refused commands to drop it. An officer then fired a shot, hitting the man. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway by State Police

The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) has asked the Louisiana State Police (LSP) to investigate the officer-involved shooting. State detectives spent most of the afternoon collecting evidence, speaking with witnesses, and examining the area.

Thankfully, no officers were injured during the incident.
