Millions of Social Security beneficiaries are receiving their final regular May payments this week. But this May is special because many are getting two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments—one regular and one early payment made on May 30.
Why Are Some Getting Two SSI Payments in May?
Some Social Security recipients also qualify for SSI benefits. This usually includes seniors, people with disabilities, or those who are legally blind. Because of the calendar, the June SSI payment was moved early to May 30 since June 1 falls on a Sunday.
So, beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI will get:
- Their regular May SSI payment (usually on May 1), and
- The early June SSI payment on May 30.
However, in June, these recipients will only receive their regular retirement payment, and there will be no SSI payment.
Who Receives SSI Payments in Early June?
On June 3, some special groups will get their SSI benefits, including:
- People who started benefits before May 1997
- Those who receive both SSI and Social Security
- Beneficiaries living abroad

Social Security Payment Schedule for June 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a regular schedule based on your birthday:
- June 11 (Second Wednesday): Payments to those born between the 1st and 10th
- June 18 (Third Wednesday): Payments to those born between the 11th and 20th
- June 25 (Fourth Wednesday): Payments to those born after the 20th
There are no changes due to holidays in June 2025, so the schedule will proceed as usual.
How Much Can You Receive from Social Security in 2025?
The amount depends on your retirement age and your work history:
- Age 62: Maximum benefit of $2,831/month, reflecting an early retirement reduction
- Full Retirement Age (66 years, 10 months): Up to $4,018/month, based on maximum earnings
- Age 70: Maximum $5,108/month, including delayed retirement credits of 8% per year after full retirement age, up to about 24% increase
Most people receive less than these maximum amounts. The average monthly Social Security benefit in 2025 is about $1,976.
For SSI recipients:
- Maximum individual benefit is $967/month
- Maximum for couples applying jointly is $1,450/month
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) recipients follow the same Wednesday payment schedule as retirement beneficiaries.
This May, many Social Security beneficiaries received an unusual second SSI payment early on May 30 to cover June’s benefit. The regular June payments will follow the usual SSA schedule, starting from June 11 based on birthdays.
If you qualify for Social Security or SSI, understanding the payment dates and amounts can help you plan your finances better for the months ahead.
