Early Sunday morning, a shooting at a house party in Mountain View, Catawba County, North Carolina, left one person dead and at least 11 others injured. The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. during a gathering of about 100 people.
Multiple Shooters Involved, Motive Unknown
Authorities say there was more than one shooter, but they are still working to identify who they are and what caused the violence. Major Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reported that more than 80 shots were fired during the shooting.
Earlier Police Visit for Noise Complaint
Interestingly, deputies had visited the same house about two hours before the shooting because of a noise complaint. The partygoers cooperated by lowering the music, and police found no link between that complaint and the shooting.
Victims and Response
Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir, North Carolina, was identified as the person killed. The 11 others injured were taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition. Emergency responders arrived after multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting.
Investigation Underway
No arrests have been made yet. Police from Catawba County, Hickory, the FBI, and other agencies are working together to find the shooters and understand the reason behind the attack.
Eyewitnesses Describe Chaos
Witnesses, including high school students at the party, described how they ran for safety as soon as the shooting started. One teenager told WSOC news, “As soon as I heard the shots, everybody started scattering off, ducking our heads, running off toward our cars, toward safety.”
Sheriff’s Commitment to Justice
Sheriff Donald G. Brown II assured the public that investigators will work tirelessly to catch those responsible and protect the community.
