Traveling is always exciting, and for people in Texas, flying out from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is a common experience. But before you board your flight, you usually have to park your car somewhere — and now, parking at ABIA is about to get more expensive.
Recent changes around the airport are bringing more parking spaces, but they’re also bringing higher prices for some parking areas. Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening.
Why Are Parking Prices at ABIA Increasing?
As reported by KXAN, travelers have noticed construction happening around the airport. ABIA is expanding, and one big project includes building a brand-new parking area called the Yellow Garage.
While it’s exciting to see growth at the airport, this also means more people are flying out, and parking spots are getting harder to find. Because of the high demand, the airport is raising prices in two specific parking areas.
According to ABIA officials, the price increase is necessary to “reflect the airport’s response to increasing passenger traffic and rising demand for on-airport parking options.”
Which Parking Areas Are Getting More Expensive?
Starting May 1, 2025, parking rates will officially go up at the Red Garage and Blue Garage. Here’s how the changes will affect travelers:
- The Red Garage daily rate will increase from $32 to $35.
- The Red Garage hourly rate will rise from $5 to $7.
- The Blue Garage daily rate will go up from $23 to $26.
If you usually park in the Economy Lot, there’s good news: the Economy Lot price will stay the same for now.
How to Plan for the New Parking Rates
If you plan to fly out of Austin after May 1st, it’s important to budget for the new parking costs. You might also want to explore different parking options, like:
- Reserving a spot in advance.
- Checking if ride-share services or shuttle buses could save you money.
- Parking in the Economy Lot to avoid the new higher prices.
Keeping these options in mind can help make your trip smoother and more affordable.
