Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides monthly payments to people who have disabilities related to their work. This federal program is based on your past contributions to Social Security while you worked.
To qualify, you need a sufficient work history and must have a medical condition that prevents you from working regularly.
How Is SSDI Different From SSI?
SSDI is different from Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is a program based on financial need. SSDI is funded through payroll taxes, and to qualify, you must prove that you cannot perform “substantial gainful activity” (SGA)—meaning you cannot earn above a certain amount by working.
Your SSDI payment depends on how much you paid into Social Security during your working years.
SSDI Payment Schedule for June 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) pays SSDI benefits based on your birthdate, dividing payments into three Wednesdays each month.
For June 2025, payments will be made on:
- June 11 for those born between the 1st and 10th
- June 18 for those born between the 11th and 20th
- June 25 for those born between the 21st and 31st
This schedule is consistent every year, and no changes are expected for June 2025.

How Much Will You Receive?
The average SSDI payment in 2025 is about $1,751, which covers most beneficiaries. The maximum monthly payment can reach $4,018 for those with long work histories and high past earnings.
When Will Your SSDI Payment Arrive in Your Bank Account?
If you receive payments by direct deposit, money usually arrives by 12:01 a.m. on your payment date.
The SSA suggests waiting three business days before worrying about a late payment. If you don’t see your deposit by then:
- Contact your bank first, as they might delay posting.
- If still missing, call the Social Security Administration (SSA) for help.
What If You Also Receive SSI?
If you receive both SSDI and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your payment date changes. You will get your combined benefits on the third day of each month unless the 3rd falls on a weekend, in which case you get paid on the nearest business day before.
Knowing when your SSDI payments arrive helps you manage your money better. For June 2025, payments are on June 11, 18, or 25 based on your birthday. If you also get SSI, expect payment around the 3rd of the month.
If your payment is late, give it three days, check with your bank, then contact SSA if needed.
